How to Spend Your Short Breaks with Style

  1. Make a list

Draw up a list of activities you plan to do and possible activities. The first step to a successful short break is to have a proper clear plan of what you want to achieve and do. If you leave this short break to chance you would come to the end of it with regrets of not using it properly!

2.This list should contain places around town you plan to visit and the ones you love to visit.

Too often we live in a city and never truly own the city. There are places and spots around you you have not visited or have not been to in a long time. Take advantage of this break and spend some time doing something new in the city.

3. Get a list of activities you never find time to do like read a book, go visiting, cooking etc and schedule them into your time.

Hopefully the weather is right for warm socks and a cup of tea the perfect combination for a good book.

4. Revisit your goals

Look at your goals for the year and decide what you can do in this short period that crosses out a goal or brings it closer. Nothing like some 'Me time' to put things in perspective and get focused.

5. Take lots of rest!

This is not the time to attend every event, make sure you sleep in and stay stress free.

6. Book a time away at the Spa!

Nothing screams self love more than some well deserved pampering at the Spa.

7. Check into a hotel or resort for some time away.

This time of the year is great for reflection and strategizing, as we are halfway through the year! Where did all the time go!

We Woke Up Flawless

Most of us went through puberty that gifted us with pimples that we poked leading to scars; and don't forget the acne that found a home on different parts of our skin.
While some of us passed this stage and got our skin back, others have never quite recovered.
For those with recovering skin and those with okay skin that could be better how do we do it? how do we make our skin pop and become flawless?
1. Use the right products! From cleansers to body creams to serums make sure you use the right ones. And right doesn't get better than using nature inspired and natural ingredients based products. Here at ORÍKÌ we believe nature knows best and so all our products are made from potent natural ingredients for solving, maintaining and improving skin conditions.
2. Drink loads of water! this is one habit we cannot over emphasize. Gulping 3 liters of water can be a task but we ease that when we infuse our water with healthy fruits like strawberries, lemons and cucumber. This not only makes it easier to drink water but also flushes the body of toxins and helps our skin breathe easier.
3. Wash up well. Have a routine that works for you which should include a scrub, a soak, steam and regular baths. The cleaner we keep our skins the better they will look.
4.Stay away from the sun. The notion that we are africans and we do not get sunburn is a lie! In this climate with you being on the go you need to deal with the sun. Get an umbrella for sunny days ignore the sniggers and use that umbrella to provide some shade for your skin also make sure you get a good sunscreen to help with keeping your skin flawless. https://www.orikigroup.com/collections/treatments/products/sun-protective-defense-cream
There you have it! follow this consistently and you will soon be singing 'woke up flawless'.

Mirror Mirror on The Wall

ARE YOU THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN YOUR WORLD?

Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?

This popular line haunted our childhood and while we waved it off as something the evil Queen said, we failed to notice that it was an introduction to the competitive future of beauty standards. Swipe a couple years away and we are women living in a world of dynamic beauty where curvy is the new rave and ebony skin is the poster content. Till tomorrow comes and there’s a new measure for what we should look like and aspire to.

The question that has been debated is, who decides what the standard of beauty is and why do we even follow it? Sure there is an explanation about pop culture and how it determines everything we do especially in the selfie age where everything about human lifestyle is flaunted.

What if, we decided to toss out those standards, own our mirrors, and ravish the beauty we see each day ?

Now, this is not to tell you to be unhealthy because essentially we all want to live long enough to enjoy our beauty. It is, accepting the things we cannot change and working on those that we can.

There are three steps to owning your beauty

BUY A MIRROR

Make it your friend.

If you can get a full – length mirror, great but make do with what you can get. Spend some minutes daily looking at yourself and appreciating the unique parts of you. From the spot on your nose to the colour of your fingers, take your quirks and own them. Who was it that said they can’t be used against you if you accept them?

EXERCISE

This isn’t about having a great body although constant exercise gives you desired body goals when paired with a good diet. It is about being fit. It is waking up in the morning and feeling great about yourself because you can breathe properly and do a whole lot without getting tired. It’s a psyche thing really. You get fit, are healthy, happy about it and your skin begins to radiate because you are happy. Let’s face it, beauty is part aura and if you have positive vibes, you are already winning.

DIET

We all love a good juicy burger with cheese dripping from the sides. But don’t have it every day! Draw up a diet that lets you have a balanced diet. You do remember what a balanced diet is? What our teachers drummed down our ears in elementary school? It is okay if you were just cramming then and can’t remember. Simply, eat the right food in the right portions at the right time.

There you have it. Three steps to being the most beautiful woman in your world. Never let anyone make you feel you aren’t.

5 Night Time Skincare Tips from ORÍKÌ

Tip #1: Cleanse your skin nightly – Wipes reveal to us just how dirty ones face could be after each day, even when you have little to no makeup on. So it’s important to clean the skin at night time to avoid the spread of acne bacteria that can cause increased blemishes. Your skin repairs itself at night, so removing makeup gives your skin a clean palette for applying your night time performance products for maximum absorption.

Tip #2: Moisturize at night –It’s really important to use a moisturizer at night because when your skin is at rest, the skin’s permeability is at its highest therefore allowing the action ingredients of a moisturizer to absorb deeper within the skin.  See our recommended night time moisturizer below.

Tip #3: Change your pillowcase frequently – Our pillowcase may become bacteria grooming agents due to oils from our skin during night time, thus frequent replacement of our pillowcase is essential.

Tip #4: Apply your eye cream properly
 – Its very important to avoid applying eye cream too close to your lashes as the product will eventually end up in your eyes when you blink. We know that anything that enters the eyes can be an obvious irritant and cause unnecessary puffiness. See our recommended eye cream below.

Tip #5: Get your beauty sleep – The bottom line is when you’re tired, you look it!

We certainly understand the discipline and effort it requires to perform your night time skincare routine, especially when you’re exhausted. But, you really must do it to see changes or maintain that glow!

Pillows: How they can be Helping your Skin

When it comes to helping your skin look its very best (younger, smoother, clearer), your pillow decision is as essential as your product routine.

In today’s blogpost, we will be talking about how you should sleep at night on your pillow, depending on your skin concerns and what you’re looking to prevent or improve.

If you have under eye puffiness…sleeping on two pillows would be very beneficial, here’s why: When your head is elevated, it helps to reduce fluid retention so you’re less puffy both in the face and under the eyes in the morning. It’s also important to avoid using a really greasy eye cream before bed and at night as the oils can travel into the eyes and cause unnecessary puffiness.

If you have tired-looking skin…sleeping on a single pillow that is thinner with a low elevation will do the trick, here’s why: During the daytime hours, you’re in an upright position for most of the day and the blood can move downward from the face making the skin look pale and tired, most people experience this. So at night, you want to have your head as flat as possible and also tilted back a bit to re-balance that flow and stimulate circulation to the face to give an inner glow. A well-formulated vitamin C serum like this one can be a big bonus as well.

If you have deep wrinkles that run from the nostril to the corner of the mouth… we recommend you sleep on your back and if perhaps you’re a side sleeper, position your head on the lower corner of your pillow, here’s why: To prevent wrinkle lines, you want to avoid a squishing of the cheeks while sleeping and thus reduce encouraging the lines that come naturally with age due to smiling and laughing.

If you’re prone to breakouts…many people don’t realize this, but a lot of breakouts are caused by pillow sleep habits, because when sleeping on your pillowcase for 7-8 hours a night, you are transferring a lot of oil from both your hair and face onto the pillowcase. Oil ends up on your face when you roll over while sleeping. And because oil breeds bacteria which then leads to breakouts, it only appropriate that you’d want to sleep on a clean pillowcase every night.

We suggest two nights with the same pillowcase should be your target, try sleeping on one side of the pillow on one night and then flipping it over on the second night to achieve this. After two nights, you can replace your pillowcase with a fresh, clean one.

NOTE: Makeup removal, face cleansing before bed is a must and will cause more breakouts than just a dirty pillowcase if not done, so please make sure you are diligent about washing your face daily.

5 Reasons to get a Facial

5 reasons to get a Facial

Seeking healthier, clearer and more beautiful skin? Look no further because a facial can make a dramatic difference. Here’s five reasons why.

Expert Skin Analysis/Professional Advice
The major benefit of getting your skin analyzed through professional facials are that the esthetician will see you without makeup to reveal your true skin type and thus they cater to your unique needs through professional treatments and suggest the best products for your home care routine. Part of getting a facial is receiving a lesson from experts on how to care for your skin properly and they also give you the opportunity to ask questions you may be curious about.

Clean Out Blackheads and Clogged Pores
With proper preparation and skin softening techniques, your esthetician will use a skilled method to gently extract clogged pores, blackheads, and impurities without causing harm to your skin. It takes a professional esthetician to properly prepare and soften the skin before manual extractions can take place in a safe and effective way.

Increase Circulation to Encourage a Glow
We can all get that glow! When our blood circulation slows, the skin’s health is impaired. Ageing which is inevitable results in dull, tired looking skin and one important benefit of a facial is a massage to the face which along with warm steam, helps to increase blood flow bringing new nutrients to the skin and this encourages a youthful glow to the face.

Problem Solve/Stress Release
Whatever your skin concern, a good facial is always customized to focus on what your skin needs to help solve your skin problems, they are also extremely relaxing and immediately de-stress you both physically and psychologically.  Imagine a room with dim lighting, soft music, and a warm, comfy bed. Need we say more!

Because You Deserve It!
We tend to spend an exceptional amount of time working or caring for other people in our lives. While this is not that bad, most times it can be mentally exhausting. Take just a couple of hours to yourself to do something that would nourish your soul and pamper your skin in just a few blissful hours at the spa.

As a bonus, the baby oil will also help prolong the life of the razor.
